The race was won by Michael Schumacher. It was his first win towards his world championship that year. The German, who drove for Ferrari, finished the race in 1:34:01.987. He had a lead of 11.415 to Rubens Barrichello who came in second and finished 20.009 in front of Ralf Schumacher who was third. Of the 22 drivers who competed in the race, 12 retired.
