Difficult first day for HRT

Hispania Racing Team wasn't able to continue the good form they showed in Montreal. They finished Friday as 22nd and 23rd. In the second practice session Narain Karthikeyan even fell out of the virtual 107% margin. The Indian driver faced some technical problems: "Obviously the afternoon with the gearbox situation was not ideal and, unfortunately, due to these issues we were unable to run the whole of the programme."
He continued: "I'm still learning my way around the circuit, it's a little bit stop-and-go. The track is quite slippery and our car seemed to be very limited on traction in the morning which wasn't good. With the reliability issue it was not the best of days for me."
His teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi also didn't have a great day. The Italian driver struggled with his setup: "It was a difficult day because we struggled a lot with the rear tyres and the rear end of the car. We still haven't found the right balance. I think our pace in relation to the leaders is similar to usual but we still need to improve a lot and work hard tonight to try and solve the issues with the balance of the car and keep pushing to stay ahead of our closest rivals."
Last year HRT qualified as 23rd and 24th.
