
FIA announces 21 race 2012 calendar

The FIA has announced that the 2012 Formula 1 calendar will consist of 21 races. It will be the first time the Formula 1 calendar will host that many Grand Prix. The season is scheduled to start with the Bahrain race on March 11 2012 and will end eight months later in Brazil. There will be six back to back races and a break of a month between the Hungarian and the Belgian Grand Prix. The calendar reintroduces the United States Grandprix that will be held at the new track in Austin, Texas. The Turkish Grand Prix is subject to confirmation because their current contract has ended.

The teams, FIA and FOM have to reach an agreement about the calendar since the current Concorde Agreement only mandates 20 events.
