Pirelli: Supersoft is going to last at most 10 laps

Pirelli had an eventful weekend. The tyre manufacturer was the talk of the town in Barcelona. The tyres were too hard according to most concerned. The manufacturer is now set to introduce a brand new tyre in Monaco. If anything the new super soft tyre will be too soft. Pirelli's Paul Hembery says he looks very much forward to the narrow street circuit: "Monaco is a fantastic race that makes no sense on the one hand as it’s so different from everywhere else, but it’s still the jewel in the crown of the calendar on the other."
Hembery also looks forward to the debut of their new tyre they'll bring to Monte Carlo: "We're very excited to see our PZero Red supersoft tyres making their debut around the twisty streets this weekend, although this type of circuit will obviously be a completely new experience as we’ve only tested on permanent tracks."
Pirelli says that the new tyres will only last for 10 laps at most. They predict it will be even less at the start of the race when the cars are 200kg's heavier. Pirelli's motorsport director explains: "The supersoft rubber is designed to provide outstanding performance over a short period of time but this comes at the price of durability, so all the teams will have to consider their strategies carefully. Getting it right will make the difference between winning and losing."
The soft tyre that was the designated 'option' tyre in the previous races is the harder compound for this race. "For longer runs, the PZero Yellow has already proven itself to be a reliable and popular product so far this year, contributing to extremely close racing while providing the drivers with all the confidence they need to push to the maximum. We said from the start that we wanted to give racing back to the racers, and we’re hoping very much that Monaco will be a classic example of this."
The tyres will make their debut in Monaco this Thursday at 10:00 (GMT +2) in the first free practice, although the new supersoft tyre will most likely only be used by the teams in the seconds session that starts at 14:00.
